Become a Volunteer Mentor Driver

Just two hours a week can help a young person gain a life-changing licence.

We are looking for volunteer mentor drivers to support our Road Ready Rangatahi Driving School programme.

By volunteering your time, you’ll help rangatahi gain their driver licence - building confidence, independence, and opening up new opportunities
in employment and education.

Our volunteer mentor drivers play a vital role in supporting young people to succeed.

We’re looking for volunteers who are patient, confident drivers and passionate about supporting rangatahi.

To become a driving mentor with Youth Inspire you must:

  • Be over 25 years old

  • Have held a full New Zealand driver licence for at least 2 years

  • Be a patient and confident driver who can give clear instructions

  • Have a good understanding of the New Zealand Road Code

  • Be available to mentor two 1 hour driving lessons per week (these times can fit around your schedule)

Who we’re looking for

What Youth Inspire provides:

  • A comprehensive theory training session (2 hours)

  • In-car training with a qualified driving instructor (1 hour)

  • An automatic hybrid vehicle to teach in

  • Quarterly mentor events to connect with other volunteers, refresh road code knowledge, ask questions, and feel part of the wider Youth Inspire community

  • Our Driving School vehicles are based in Taitā, Lower Hutt

If you’d like to support rangatahi and help create new opportunities for young people in our community, we’d love to hear from you.
