FAQs

Have a question? We’re here to help.

Here are some of the questions we’re most often asked about Youth Inspire programmes and support services. No question is a bad question - if you’re not sure about something, just ask.

Are your programmes and services free?

Yes. Our Driving School and Employment Programmes are completely free for eligible rangatahi.

Do I need to have finished school to do the programme or get some help?

No. You don’t need to have finished school or have any NCEA levels. We’re here to support you wherever you’re at.

I find reading, writing and math hard, can I still do your programmes?

Yes. Our programmes are not like school. We focus on activity-based learning which teaches skills that will help you get a job.

Do I need to be drug free to get support?

No. You can still access our support. However, being drug free can increase your employment opportunities. If becoming drug free is something you want to work towards, we can help support you with that.

Do I need work experience to join?

No. You don’t need previous work experience. You will get work experience on our Youth Employability Programme.

Do you help with apprenticeships and support into specific areas of work?

Yes. We'll talk with you about your interests and explore what will be a good career for you. This could be something you’ve always wanted to do or perhaps something you’ve never heard of before.

I don’t have any ID – can you help with this?

Yes. We can help get your ID free so that you can get your Learner Driver Licence and ensure you are work ready!

I lost my job or got fired. Can you still help me find a new one?

Yes. We can work with you to figure out what went wrong and what the next steps are so that you succeed in your next job.

I just want help getting a job. Do I have to do your programme?

Not necessarily. When you meet with one of our Youth Advisors, they will talk to you about what support you need. If you are work ready then we can help you update your CV and cover letter and give you interview prep.

I have a criminal record and/or charges. Will you still work with me?

Yes. We can help you better understand what the charges are, and how they might affect employment options. We’ll then support you to explore the opportunities available.
